What is the Telstra TV app?

What can I do with the Telstra TV app?

You can use the Telstra TV app to discover the latest and trending content from all your favourite streaming services and free-to-air TV channels and launch them from the app. Subscription charges apply for streaming services.

The app also includes a virtual remote that can be used to control your Telstra TV just like the physical remote. You can also use voice search on the app to search for content across all supported content partners and open the content on your Telstra TV.

Can I watch content directly within the app?

Telstra TV Box Office content (including movie trailers) can be watched directly within the app. Content from our partner streaming providers will launch either in the content provider's app on your mobile device or on your Telstra TV (if you have paired the app with your Telstra TV).

What app content is included in search?

You can search to access content from the following providers:

  • Telstra TV Box Office
  • Stan
  • Foxtel Now
  • Binge
  • Disney+
  • Amazon Prime Video
  • ABC iView
  • 9Now
  • 10Play
  • 7Plus
  • SBS On Demand
  • Britbox
  • DocPlay
  • Hayu

Subscription charges may apply to watch content from particular streaming providers.

Is all the content included at no charge?

No, in many cases you’ll need to set up an account with the content provider to watch their content and subscription charges will apply. Some content requires a valid subscription with the streaming service provider, or in the case of the Telstra TV Box Office service you need to rent or buy the content on a supported device before watching it on the Telstra TV app.

Manage

  • The Telstra TV mobile app will scan for any Telstra TV devices connected to the same Wi-Fi network as your device – and when it finds one, it will prompt you to pair the device with your Telstra TV mobile app.

Alternatively, within the Telstra TV app you can:

    1. Go to Menu
    2. Select Settings
    3. Select Pair with your Telstra TV
    4. Select Refresh to scan your network for your Telstra TV.

Once your device is paired, you’ll see the remote icon in the app's main menu on the bottom right-hand side of the screen change from grey to white.

Once paired you can use the Remote Controller feature of the Telstra TV App to control your Telstra TV as you would with the physical remote.

    1. Navigate to the Library section of the app
    2. Select the Purchases tab.

Any content you have active entitlements for should be displayed and you can play them either within the app or you can cast the video to a Telstra TV for viewing on your compatible Smart TV. (This requires the app to be paired with a Telstra TV on the same network).

Troubleshooting

  • Try closing the app and re-launching it from your device home screen.

  • Content promoted on the Telstra TV home screen is only a selection of the latest and most popular titles currently available from our content partner apps. To discover more, use the Search function to find content related to a title, cast member or genre – or open the content partner’s app to directly browse more of their catalogue within (subscription charges may apply).

  • The Search feature matches your query against the names/titles of movies and TV shows, the names of actors and directors, and genres (e.g., Action, Comedy, Drama, etc). If your search has returned no results, this means that the content you are looking for is not currently available on any of the apps included in our search database (see "What providers are included in search?" above).

  • Try restarting your mobile device and relaunching the Telstra TV app.

If that doesn't work, try restarting the Telstra TV itself.  From the main menu use the remote to:

    1. Navigate to Settings
    2. Select System
    3. Select Power
    4. Select System restart.
  • Some customers have reported that their Telstra TV is not being paired each time they load the app

We hope to be able to make this feature more reliable for all customers in the future. In the meantime, you'll need to continue to pair your Telstra TV with the app whenever it's not automatically paired as expected.

  • From time to time, we release updates to the app to function correctly. For these updates, upon launching the app, we require users to update their app before continuing.

Of course, we always recommend users enable auto update of their apps within their chosen mobile operating system to ensure they’re always using the latest version of the app.
