How do I set up my Pre-Paid Mobile Broadband device?
Follow these steps to connect your Pre-Paid mobile broadband device to the Telstra Mobile Network.
If it’s a Wi-Fi device:
- Remove the back cover and battery
- Insert the SIM card with the gold chip facing down
- Replace the battery and back cover
- Place the device in an area with good mobile coverage
- Press the power button until the front display activates
- Activate the Pre-Paid service by visiting prepaid.activate.telstra.com.au on your device.
If it’s a USB device:
- Remove the detachable panel from the device
- Insert the SIM card with the gold chip facing down
- Replace the detachable panel
- Place the device in an area with good mobile coverage
- Power up the device by inserting into a USB slot in your computer or laptop, or connect it to an AC adapter (if Wi-Fi enabled)
- Activate the Pre-Paid service by visiting prepaid.activate.telstra.com.au on your device.
Connect other devices to the Wi-Fi network
If your Pre-Paid mobile broadband device is Wi-Fi enabled, other devices can connect to it and also access the Telstra network.
To connect other devices:
- Find your Wi-Fi network name and password on the device packaging or main display, under the detachable panel, or in the device settings
- Search for the network name on the devices you want to connect, then select it and enter the password.
Important:
- When you first use your mobile broadband device, it could take up to 5 minutes to connect to the Telstra network.
- If you can’t connect to the Telstra network, check the APN in your device settings is “telstra.wap” for mobile phones, or “telstra.internet” for mobile broadband devices.
