We’ll check your maximum speeds later
At some addresses, we’re unable to check the maximum speeds at your address until you’re connected. While we don’t have the information at this stage, we’ll notify you of your maximum download and upload speeds once you’re on your new plan.
If the maximum speed at your address is below the maximum speed of the plan you’ve chosen, we will advise you of the options available to you which may include (i) remaining on your current plan; (ii) moving to a lower priced plan (if one is available); (iii) cancelling your plan at no cost (not available to upgrading customers). If your options include changing or cancelling your plan, you’ll receive a proportionate refund for the period you didn’t receive the full benefit of your chosen plan.
Maximum speeds at your address
  • Download speed
    0000 - 0000  Mbps
  • Upload speed
    0000 - 0000  Mbps
What are my maximum speeds?
The maximum speed ranges are determined by the technology nbn co makes available at your home or business, and are the best estimate we can make of the fastest possible speeds of your connection, based on the information available. The speeds you’ll experience will usually be slower, particularly during busy periods, and may be impacted by things like your in-home set up and wiring. We’ll use the latest information when you’re on your new plan to confirm the maximum speeds at your address. When choosing a plan, you’ll see how the maximum speeds at your address relate to your plan options. This is important because you will not be able to experience the typical or maximum speeds of a plan if the speeds available at your address are lower.

More about connecting to cable

Can I get cable internet?

To get cable internet, you need to have optical fibre to your street 'node', and a cable installed from the street to your home. Check your address to see if you can get cable.

Can I connect the modem myself?

Yes! We’ll send you all the installation info you need to set up your modem. You can also check out our modem setup guide.

FAQs - Connecting to cable

  • No. Cable internet uses different technology to ADSL connections. Cable doesn’t use a copper landline. You can still have a home phone with cable; it runs through your cable connection. All Telstra cable plans come with a phone service as standard.

  • No. Cable internet is a high-speed connection, and a longer ethernet cable in your home (not the coaxial cable outside your home) won't noticeably slow your speed. If your ethernet cable is excessively long, you may notice a very slight delay.

  • You can’t increase the speed of the coaxial cable running to your home, but you can try a few tricks to help improve the speed inside your home:

    • Reset your modem
    • Move the modem away from appliances, wireless electronics, furniture & metal objects
    • Try using a shorter ethernet cable
    • Check for viruses or malware on your devices
    • Use a Wi-Fi extender
  •

nbn co sets the cut-off date at 18 months after the nbn has become available in your area. If you’re in an area that is moving to FTTP, FTTN or HFC nbn connections, you need to migrate to the nbn before that date. Don't worry, nbn co sends everyone plenty of advance notice, as do internet providers.

    • nbn connections use high-speed optical fibre and a range of other technologies to deliver internet to your home.
    • Cable internet uses high-speed coaxial cable to connect you.
